She received special permission to visit her husband, who is reportedly dying of cancer inside Red China. McCann 59, of Altadena, Calif., was arrested in Tientsin in 1951 and is serving a 15-year term on spy charges.3/28/61 In 1951 Robert McCann was arrested, “tried” by the Tientsin High People’s Court, and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment “for carrying out espionage activities.” He was finally released in April 1961, but sadly passed away 28 days later at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines, en route to the United States.
